PinUp Pets garments are manufactured in the United States, in New York City - a fashion capital of the world. New York City contractors are known for high quality. The fashion industry increasingly contracts out production to foreign contractors to take advantage of lower labor costs in other countries. Therefore, the apparel manufacturing industry in the U.S. has decreased significantly over the last few decades. That trend is expected to continue, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the industry will decline an addition forty-six percent by 2014. We are doing our part to keep jobs in the U.S.A.
Some of our garments are made from fabric that comes from the U.S., although there are very few fabrics made in the U.S. nowadays. It is also much less likely for non-toxic fabrics to be made in the U.S. than overseas. For these reasons, many of our fabrics are imported.
PinUp Pets does not work with sweatshops. The U.S. Department of Labor defines a sweatshop as a factory which violates two or more of the basic labor laws, including child labor, minimum wage, benefits, overtime, non-payment of wages, corporal punishment and fire safety laws. According to the Department of Labor, over 50% of U.S. garment factories are sweatshops. We worked hard to ensure that our contractors follow the labor laws.
